TECHNOplants presents the new material FIBERfoam

FIBERfoam, a new way to produce sound and heat insulating panels, as well as high loft wadding as used in the upholstery and bedding industry.

FIBERfoam: is the name of the new process to produce voluminous nonwovens (shape and softness like air-foam) which the companyTECHNOplants in Pistoia, Italy will launch during the 2009 TECHTEXTIL in Frankfurt, Germany. (for more information: TECHTEXTIL 2009)

Il processo produttivo di FIBERfoam è stato brevettato: (n° di pratica AR 2009A0016)

The production process for FIBERfoam has been patented (n° AR 2009 A 0016).

The FIBERfoam process can be divided into the following three steps:

1. 1. Shaping the fibres in order to obtain multidimensional spherical bodies,

2. Conveying the so shaped fibres into a chute feed which loads them on to a forming device with weigh cells in order to obtain a batt (continuous mattress), please refer to the schematic drawing, whose volume varies according to the weight and the density of the final product.

3. The batt of fiber spheres enters a band oven to be thermo bonded. Afterwards it is cut to size and rolled or stacked according to its final application.

At this point of time, the sheets of this material which have been obtained through this process, vary in thickness and density from 10 mm / 120 kg/m3 to 100 mm / 15 kg/m3.

By the end of June TECHNOplants will have its in-house pilot line for:

a) Conducting further trials to explore a wide range of other fibers which can be used for this process,

b) Explore the limits in terms of the thickness of the batt (up to 300 mm) as well as its density,

c) c) Give their customers the possibility to conduct trials with their own fibres according to their individual needs.

Advantages of the FIBERfoam process:

1. The machines needed for this process can easily be included into an existing nonwoven line.

v One or more fiber sphere shaping units,

v A chute feed and forming device with weigh cells to generate a mattress of fiber spheres (before entering the thermo-bonding process).

2. For those who intend to invest into a new line, the total cost for the machines needed for the FIBERfoam process is considerably lower as compared to the cost for traditional web and/or batt forming systems.

For more information regarding the use and/or see samples of FIBERfoam panels, you are invited to visit the booth of TECHNOplants at the TECHTEXTIL exhibition in Frankfurt, Germany in hall 3.0, STAND C 21 FIBERfoam. (for more information: TECHTEXTIL 2009)

Apart from the innovative FIBERfoam process, TECHNOplants continues to build a wide range of nonwoven machines, and puts particular emphasis on their well-known machines for cutting, winding and wrapping.
